Then I found out where I was going. Stockton, California to this little town (I don't remember what it's called right now), but it was up in Washington. According to the weather report, everything looked good at the moment. Looked like I had a window of opportunity, or so it seemed. I was nervous, but like a sport, I headed out, on my journey as a SOLO Driver. This was scary as hell for me. My self-confidence level was at it's all time low and the first week out, with snow, ice, and rain, it really freaked me out. Here are some of the pictures that I took along the way:
I'm hating it! The first week was really bad. My first trip out alone (now mind you, it's February, which is the HEART of winter). The first load out actually had gotten cancelled because Mike was on the way to the hospital and I was supposed to be heading to Stockton, California to pick up my load. I was a basket case because Mike was peeing blood and his doctor said for him to come directly to the emergency room. I called my DM and told him what was going on and he basically told me to GO HOME! I turned the rig around and headed home, all the while, wondering what was happening at the doctor (calling his number every second) and him not picking up, which was making things worse for me. No news is bad news as far as I'm concerned, until I hear otherwise. Especially since I was leaving messages and him not responding-I thought he had died or something. As it turned out, he wasn't getting a phone signal and that's why I couldn't reach him. He finally was able to check his messages and used the hospital phone to call out on. Although the news wasn't what I expected, he was ok and I had heard from him. I told him that I was at home and the load had been cancelled. As it turned out, I ended up loading out the next day while he was at the doctor, getting his meds refilled, etc., and I couldn't even be there to say goodbye. That was the sad part.
I'm getting tired, but I have some more things to write about.
I'm actually testing the ability to put pictures in on the new laptop.... so far, so good... I actually took alot of pics while out on the road alone and you will see them soon, but right now, I have to finish this and get some sleep.
I'll continue here with the load from hell.......for now, I'm closing
