Hi, we finally made it to Alabama (my most favorite state)... The trip itself, wasn't that much fun because, of course, #1, I was still feeling a little sick, and #2, because of the horrible weather.
I started out driving from our Hotel in York, Nebraska--The weather was just awful and for those of you who know what it's like driving in the snow AND ice, well you know a little something about what it's like to drive in it. Although, it's much harder driving an 18-wheeler because you have not only the vehicle to deal with, but the 53' trailer that is attached to it. Driving in Nebraska was pure hell; the roads were covered with ice about 1-2" thick in some spots (slip and sliding on the highway, not on a flat piece of grass, lol). It was snowing most of the way through Nebraska, with a little ice storming in between. It was dark and I was almost in St. Joseph when I missed my turn onto the highway. Because I always have a convoy of friends on the CB, the one who was following me, mentioned that I made a wrong turn and that I needed to make a U-TURN. Yeah, right! Big rig, U=TURN, easier said than done sometimes. This time, however, it was easy--just flipped a "U-ey" underneath the overpass and back onto the highway I went.
I didn't want to seem like a dummy or something, so I stayed right with my 18-wheeler friends-heck, I didn't want them to think I didn't know what I was doing. I actually drove through the snow, ice, sleet, and rain of about 60-65 MPH, which was a feat for me for sure, because I was terrified to death that I would end up on the side of the road like a few other 18-wheeler rigs were due to the weather. Fed Ex was off the road, Stephens Palmer truck, and lots of 4-wheelers were crashed due to spin outs and sliding off the highway. I just kept going, following my GPS, and finally the snow was stopping, the rain started, and it was ok with me. I'd made it to Kansas City, Missouri, which was where I decided that I couldn't go on anymore--I was done! Mike's turn.
Mike is such a trooper, he covered for my lack of a decent shift, because he knew I was still recuperating from the virus. He took us into Tennessee, and after 10 1/2 hours of driving, and almost 700 miles later, it was my turn to take it in to Alabama to the Customer. We are finally at the customer, (2 1/2 hours early) and I'm in a door, waiting for 1600 to get here so I can go check in. Maybe i will be first in line to get unloaded (if I have it my way, I will....lol) I'm only 2 doors from the check in place.... so I'm going in early to be first in line. What a trip! Please lord, let them keep us in the south--I'm sick and tired of the snow and ice for awhile. I sure hope our friends are doing ok, as well. Until next time, my friends.
